What is Magnetic Leadership?
It’s a unique simulation that creates a learning environment for those who are serious about improving their leadership skills and like to have fun while doing it. The ability to create a vision and communicate it effectively is the pervasive skill of leaders appearing
in study after study (Kouses & Posner, Bennis, Nanus, Senge, Peters, et. al.). What if you could enhance that “visionary” skill in a one-day, fun training simulation? That’s what Magnetic Leadership is all about! The basic structure of the simulation puts teams of 7-10 participants in a business with both product and service offerings. Then it requires them to do what good leaders do – determine and implement a vision, assess and manage risk, chose projects, and plan the deployment of people, time and money. The leadership goal is to create critical moments and then assess the effectiveness of the response.

Who should attend?
This unique simulation is for anyone who wants to develop or enhance their leadership skills and gain a greater understanding of the interplay between strategy development, deployment, and day to day leadership behaviors.

What will they learn?
Magnetic Leadership will show how critical leadership skills impact profit, customer satisfaction and strategic positioning. Teams have the opportunity to take on high or low risk projects, with corresponding potential profits. Setting low targets increases the likelihood of success but reduces the potential profit, while higher targets are more challenging to reach, but more rewarding. Magnetic Leadership gives participants the opportunity to set targets, motivate a team, plan and manage execution, and measure results. Participants gain a uniquely holistic view of the process of leading. During the session, everyone gets feedback on their own performance, strengths and weaknesses, and departs with insights into those areas where they can benefit from further development.

What will they do?
Each participant is part of a 7-10 person team, in competition with other teams. Each team will choose projects for each cycle of the simulation, involving both production of new equipment and maintaining the customer’s legacy equipment. The team decides how to allocate its manpower between different functions, balancing short term needs (production and service) with preparation for the future through R&D and good financial planning. They must make and deliver products, repair customers’ equipment, purchase materials and components, and communicate effectively. Every decision you make affects the outcome, and you see how.

What’s the result?
The learning outcomes are:
  • How to create and manage vision and goals
  • How effective communication between departments leads to improved planning and execution
  • The impact of behaviors on motivation and teamwork
  • Team leadership and the impact on productivity and customer satisfaction
  • Management of resources
  • Successful leadership skills

What pre-work is needed?
None.  Just bring an open mind!
